    Description

This is a rare antique 19th century model of the American three-masted ship "Red Jacket" hand-made by an American craftsman. It has incredible detail including a solid hull, handpainted canvas sails and flags, metal railings, metal rigging guides, twine rigging, felt on bottom of stand, is 15” long, 10.5” tall, 3” wide, and weighs 9.5 oz. The real Red Jacket was one of the largest and fastest clipper ships ever built. She was the first ship of the White Star Line company, and was named after Sagoyewatha, a famous Seneca Indian chief, called Red Jacket by settlers. She was launched in 1853, and lost under the command of Capt. Bartholomew Swagg when driven ashore in a gale in 1885.
