Description
Description:You are bidding on a vintage Porcelain Plate from the Royal Copenhagen Factory in Denmark. Part of their Christmas Plate Series, this plate was for the year 1970 and the title theme is "Christmas Rose & Cat," designed by Kai Lange. The plate measure 7 1/4" in diameter and is in pristine condition. There are 2 holes built into the back so the plate can be wired for hanging. This plate is part of a series of plates I will be listing tonight.
"From 1908 Royal Copenhagen has each year issued a Christmas plate in the famous technique known as Danish underglaze painting. Each plate is made for one year only and when the limited production is completed, the molds are destroyed. Normally the plates are sold out within a short period of time and can subsequently only be acquired as collector's items."
"The motif shows the contrast, known so well in Scandanavian countries during the winter: the contrast between the warmth and comfort of indoors, and the cold and bleak day outdoors. Kai Lange has potrayed this feeling by the Cat, which, like Man, enjoys brightness and warmth and at the window captures the few rays of light which manage to push their way through the clouds, and where this precious light enables the Christmas Rose to bloom."
